The original king of font editing software is Fontographer which languished in non-development purgatory for years until FontLab bought the code and recently updated it for the Mac. The company says that TypeTool is “for students, hobby typographers and creative professionals who occasionally need to create or customize fonts”. TypeTool from FontLab is a more entry-level product along the same lines as FontCreator. The program works only with TrueType and OpenType fonts-no Type 1 fonts-and is for Windows only. It’s available for PC and Mac.įontCreator is another choice, more affordable than FontLab. ![]() FontMaster comes as seven different modules, which I find altogether cool and intimidating. FontForge is available for PC, Mac, and Linux. There was an interesting thread recently over at Typophile about FontForge that you might want to read, if you’re considering taking the open-source plunge. Also, the program is not as well documented as FontLab. That said, installing FontForge (at least under Windows) is not exactly a simple matter (you’ll need to install Cygwin first). Therefore, strength training exercises should be selected such that they have the most functional transfer across tasks, not the most specificity to an isolated task.” How Does Functional Training Relate To Exercise Prescription? There is no such thing as task-specific strength training. “ The most functional task a person can perform is the task itself. Therefore, you can add me to the multitude of these quotes me saying, So with all that being said so eloquently, I’m going to make the argument that this statement applies to clinical and general populations as well, and might even be more important. The only sport-specific training is the sport itself.” In Erik’s post he says, “The most functional task an athlete can perform is the sport itself.” This is a variation of similar statements I’ve heard many times, but they are always in the context of sport or returning an athlete to sport.Īnother example is from Stu McMillan, “There is no such thing as sport-specific strength training. I really don’t know if that expectation is self-perpetuated or reflects that of the client who heard what physical therapists do from their buddy’s lame experience. There is this expectation that we, as physical therapists or post-rehab personal trainers and strength coaches, have to find and fix a very specific biomechanical or movement related issue, and then “functional” the shit out of it. It amazes me how much resistance there is to the idea that when someone comes to a physical therapist for a specific injury or illness, getting that person generally stronger will greatly impact their overall rehabilitation and daily life. That beside the point, these articles really struck a chord with me in helping to explain my love for general strength training in rehabilitation. If you’ve never heard of pro-crush, it’s basically a real word I just made up to describe a professional bro-crush without the gender bias. Incidentally I always have a (hopefully) not too creepy pro-crush on people like Dean and Erik (and John Rusin, for that matter!) who advocate for loading in rehab/post-rehab. The former is from fellow Canadian post-rehab badass Dean Somerset and the latter from my fellow hybrid physical therapist/strength coach, Erik Meira. I recently re-read these two blog posts HERE and HERE regarding functional training. I have been professionally pondering the same question for decades what the hell is functional training, and why are people still transfixed on it when it comes to strength, performance and rehabilitation?Īs a university professor, don’t get me wrong, I spend my fair share of time reviewing and originating research, but when it comes to “functional training” there has been some great stuff to hit the fitness industry. Is There Such a Thing as Task-Specific Strength Training? ![]() There’s no faking the SAID principle when used properly.Ĥ. If you want to make specific gains in a task over the long term, forget about functional training and emphasize whole body strength training while also spending some time practicing the task. ![]() ![]() While functional training tries to mimic function, foundational strength development can actually cause physiological adaptations that transfer to function. The science actually says the contrary.ģ. Just because a functional training exercise may look or even feel like the specific task you are training for doesn’t mean it will actually produce the results you are looking for. Functional training is the latest craze in the fitness and sports performance industries, but its blatant lack of “functional” carry over based on the science makes it one hell of a misleading hoax.Ģ. ![]() Added a README file to warn of issues when running DiskMaker X in macOS Mojave.First release with macOS Mojave support. ![]() Resolves some issues when launching the app due to lack of codesigning.Every time DiskMaker X 8.0.2 was launched, it said a new version was available.Updated the minimail USB thumb drive requirement (now 16 GB).Compatible with macOS Catalina Install app.And can quickly complete tasks without any technical requirements. You can still use this app for creating bootable Windows USB on Catalina and Mojave as far as I know. However, this feature is removed from Boot Camp app on macOS Big Sur. It is a built-in free app shipped with macOS by default. If you are using an old version of Windows 10 ISO, then Boot Camp Assistant can help you get this done easily. Here is a nice tutorial for creating bootable USB on Mac: Also, this app works on latest Big Sur and M1 Mac as just tested it on a M1 MacBook Air with macOS Big Sur 11.5. It automatically splits the large ISO file into small parts so the Windows installation files can be sit on a FAT32 partition, which is the only working file system supported by Mac for Windows install. If you are using a newer Windows 10 ISO (after version 201809), then UUByte ISO Editor is the best app for creating a bootable USB on Mac. I managed to create several bootable Windows 10 USBs on Mac (Mojave, Catalina and Big Sur) in recent years. I had to create a Windows partition on my hard drive and boot into that to make a functioning boot drive. The ExFAT formatted drive with Windows ISO did not work as a bootable drive. Will report back if I run into any issues. All this said, I have yet to actually use this drive to INSTALL Windows as I'm building the computer tomorrow. I just did this with a Sandisk 32GB drive and it worked perfectly. Select "ExFAT" in the format dropdown and confirmĪfter this process you are able to move larger files into your USB drive. Select drive you want to be the boot drive Here are the steps! For reference I'm running Mac OS Monterey (v12.0.1) The easiest thing to do is just to reformat your drive to 'ExFat' using Disk Utility. Sorry if this is a breach of etiquette (commenting on an old thread!) You don't need to download any new software to do this, everything is already included in current Mac OS. In case anyone stumbles onto this thread I'm going to give what I believe to be the easiest solution to this problem. ![]() Kramer later helps him evade the police in a white Ford Bronco.(ala OJ ). The lake was named in 1879 after the Swiss-born naturalist and geologist Louis Agassiz, who conducted extensive studies on the movement of glaciers. The fine claylike silt that accumulated on the bottom of Agassiz is responsible for the fertility of the valleys of the Red and Souris rivers. With the retreat of the ice sheet after nearly 1,000 years, a channel to the north (now the Nelson River) drained the 285,000-sq-km (110,000-sq-mile) Lake Agassiz into Hudson Bay, leaving Lakes Winnipeg, Winnipegosis, and Manitoba and Lake of the Woods as remnants. As a result, the waters of the Saskatchewan and other rivers backed up, forming the 1,100-km (700-mile)-long by 300-km (200-mile)-wide Lake Agassiz and the smaller lakes of Souris and Saskatchewan, which drained through various outlets (depending upon their water level) either into the Mississippi River (via the Minnesota River) or Lake Superior.
